Carova Beach and the Surrounding Area
While one of the best things about Carova Beach is that it's out of the way, sometimes you just need something to do. Here are some ideas:
Our Favorite Restaurants: (All are moderately priced and worth a try)
- Route 12 Restaurant, Timbuck II, Corolla: Don't let the exterior fool you -- The food is great and this is where the locals go. Reservations are accepted.
- Northbanks Rawbar and Restaurant, Timbuck II, Corolla: Yummy food! My personal favorite: The crabcakes. Northbanks doesn't take reservations.
- The Roadhouse, just north of Loblolly Pines, Duck: Like Route 12, don't let it's exterior keep you from trying this little gem.
- Red Sky Cafe, Duck: The food is good and they will provide catering to the Northern Beaches.
Area Shopping:
- Carova Firehouse: There's a little shop inside. It's open during the Summer months daily except Sundays from 12-2:00pm or when someone's there!
- Old Corolla Village: Don't forget to visit the Wild Horse Museum.
- Timbuck II: Located in Corolla. Along with shopping and restaurants, they also have a mini golf course and a go kart race track.
- Scarborough Faire: Located in Duck.
- Osprey Landing: Located in Duck.
- Loblolly Pines: Located in Duck.
Area Attractions:
- False Cape State Park: Great place to hike and have a quiet walk on the beach. Located about 3 miles north of us.
- Corolla Lighthouse: Lots of steps, but the view is worth it!
- Whalehead Club: Tour the old duck hunting lodge and stroll through the park. Great views of the Currituck Sound.
- The Wright Memorial: Take your first flight just like Orville and Wilbur Wright did!
- Jockeys Ridge State Park: Climb the dune and, if you want, learn to hang glide.
- Manteo: Visit the North Carolina Aquarium, the Elizabethan Gardens, and try not to miss a performance of The Lost Colony.
- Cape Hatteras: Approximately a 60 mile scenic drive south, you will go through Ocracoke and Rodanthe before getting to the lighthouse and the cape. It's a worthwile day trip.
